We share everything

SOUTH CAROLINA, EASLEY: I work for a labor and employment law firm and covid has really impacted our workload, due to employers needing advice on how to navigate a pandemic within the workplace.

As Covid spread, it became more and more difficult to deal with questions regarding coverage for the disease and related employee policies. At my company, if a worker showed any symptoms of Covid, they were sent home immediately.

My husband became ill at work and was sent home by his company. They paid for his Covid test, and it came back positive. A few days later, I also became ill and tested positive for Covid.

I think I caught Covid from my husband. We share everything.

In the beginning, I was anxious; all the news reports about the disease were worrisome. But, in time, as my symptoms stayed mild, I began to relax.

My symptoms were a lot like allergies, watery and itchy eyes, runny nose. Sometimes it felt like the inside of my nose was burning; which was strange. I did lose my sense of smell and taste, but they came back in about three weeks.

In a week, I was back to my routine with full energy again, doing the laundry and other chores.

I take more precautions now to keep from spreading the disease, but I always forget my mask when I go to the store.

I’m hoping there will soon be a vaccine that will end the Covid outbreak, but I’m hesitant to get vaccinated because I don’t trust anything new.

Still, I’m a social person and look forward to when life gets more normal again, and I can visit with friends once more.
