SURVIVOR DIARIES

I did it all wrong

As the Covid news began and lockdowns spread, I was unsure of how scary it was.  I never wore a mask when going out. I have asthma, and the masks made me feel suffocating. I'm a nail-biter and was not very good about keeping my hands washed after going to the grocery store. So, in a nutshell, I did everything wrong by CDC standards.

I ended up catching the virus from a family member. Some family members were living with us as they transitioned from one home to another.  One of them caught it from a co-worker and then we all contracted it like falling dominoes.

Out of the six of us, five got sick. The only one that did not get it was my 10-year-old grandson. The most severe symptom was a headache for several days, followed by seven days of vertigo. My daughter had symptoms like a head cold for three days. The rest of us had mild temperatures, slight headaches, and mild dizziness. My sense of taste came and went for weeks after the virus.

For me, Covid was more of an annoyance because I couldn't do what I wanted to do either because I was tired or couldn't go out. My husband and I worked on projects around the house as our energy allowed.

I found it interesting that as we recovered and re-entered social life, we were treated like lepers.  For the first few weeks, people were afraid of us. I understand their concern but it was upsetting.

Having Covid took away my fear of the virus. After hearing the news, I’d been anxious about what Covid could do. For our family, we were lucky.

Our family runs an electrical contracting business, and Covid made a huge impact on our revenue. When we can’t get out and work because things are closed down, we don’t make any money. Financially, it was the scariest thing about Covid.

As far as the vaccine is concerned, I will not take it.  First of all, I've already had Covid.  Secondly, I don't take the flu or pneumonia vaccines either. Thirdly,  the vaccine doesn't stop anyone from getting the virus or any of its variants.  What's the point?
